Chert

The predominant stone type in the locality is Chert. The flint-like nodules form in the sandy ground and gives a beautifully rich and varied finish which compliments the natural timbers. The Chert is used as a robust finish on the field-touching side of the house and as part of the “plinth” holding up the house cantilever on the North side. Much of the flint has travelled about a mile across the valley where it was field-harvested.
