Steel "boots"
The house is built into a “cut” in the side of the Blackdowns, and the north living room and kitchen cantilever over the sloping ground below. Carefully designed and prefabricated steel components have been galvanised and fitted in place. These are a continuation of the blockwork substructure and are part of the “pair of boots” which keep the timber frame and beech trusses isolated from the damp ground.
